@nat418 @jakehamilton I've already seen jonringer and sridca do that shit on both Reddit and Hacker News but the official forum should still have more proactive moderation, regardless of which troll farm is sending the sealions in.
Public · 2024-05-03 08:20+00:00 Public · 2024-05-03 07:19+00:00 @jakehamilton you could tell me this is Hacker News and I would believe you. I don't think that's a good thing...
Public · 2024-05-02 20:06+00:00 Migrated Claw to use the newly released AndroidX Navigation Safe Args APIs and I'm quite pleased with the result, aside from a small hang up with me not knowing of the `hasRoute` method it was pretty smooth sailing.

Public · 2024-05-02 17:35+00:00 @ianlake in my existing navigation code I was doing a bunch of naive checks like these to figure out if the top backstack entry was one of a list of options or matched a specific destination stored in a variable elsewhere, with the type-safe version is there a recommended way to do these kinds of things?
Public · 2024-05-02 11:39+00:00 Yesterday's #JetpackReleaseNotes had so much fun stuff, I'm already on the way to implement them into Claw
Public · 2024-05-02 10:49+00:00 @bladecoder All the samples are from the old API so I was very confused for a solid two minutes 😬
Either way, the migration now seems pretty easy but I'm having issues with the indicator's visibility so I'll file a bug report in the evening https://msfjarvis.dev/g/compose-lobsters/e87d87720cea
Public · 2024-05-01 08:08+00:00 @Sh41 yeah even with the massive login rewards ongoing right now I find it a chore to wait a whole minute for the game to launch on a Pixel 8, they've got to be doing something very wrong to make a Unity game this bad.
Public · 2024-04-30 09:15+00:00 @danderson sadly my quest for NixOS replacements has been going similarly. I might just give up and go back to Linux Mint lol
Public · 2024-04-29 20:07+00:00 @jakehamilton I hate how predictable a Hacker News comments section always is.
Public · 2024-04-28 23:28+00:00 It's nearly 5 AM here and I am left wondering why the hell am I still up
Public · 2024-04-27 21:29+00:00 @ybinnenweg not really sure yet but I'm keeping an eye out. For better or worse I still run NixOS on a bunch of my machines so I'll simply maintain my packages downstream until I move them over to Debian or something.
Public · 2024-04-27 21:21+00:00 Peace out
Public · 2024-04-27 19:15+00:00 Finally pulled the trigger on this o7
Public · 2024-04-27 18:01+00:00 @jalcine@todon.eu depending on where you are on the give-a-shit meter, this repository is doing a thorough job of breaking down everything that has been said from both sides of the matter https://github.com/KFearsoff/nix-drama-explained
Public · 2024-04-27 09:04+00:00 Apparently the problem isn't Telegram itself but upstream providers in Singapore, and since their only Asian data center is in Singapore the service goes down for all users assigned to that DC.
Public · 2024-04-27 08:21+00:00 Again...
Public · 2024-04-26 16:19+00:00 Looks like #Telegram is down
Public · 2024-04-26 15:51+00:00 @britter here's an example of how to set it up with Postgres https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/nixos/tests/freshrss-pgsql.nix
Public · 2024-04-26 15:22+00:00 @QuietMisdreavus Divine intervention has decided you did not need that code anyway :P
Jokes aside I do wonder if all the fancy branchless workflow tools that have popped up solved this in some way
Public · 2024-04-26 15:16+00:00 @QuietMisdreavus 🦀 Dropbox as VCS 🦀
Public · 2024-04-26 12:30+00:00 @david_chisnall based on what info I've been drip fed by my employer's sales team, having a bunch of comments on posts makes it show up in more people's feeds and it starts snowballing from there. If you keep showing up in people's feeds on a semi-regular basis it makes it more likely for them to check your profile out and become a potential customer.
Of course I am neither an enthusiastic LinkedIn user nor a fan of this growth hacking bullshit so this theory may have holes.
Public · 2024-04-26 12:05+00:00 I'm not mad or anything about the notifications BTW it's just somewhat funny.
Public · 2024-04-26 12:04+00:00 Adventures in #NixOS rabbit hole continue
- Wanted to run GNOME 46
- Didn't want to build the world locally
- Bought a beefy x86 server and made it build staging-next branch
- Spun up Attic (https://docs.attic.rs/) on my smol aarch64 server
- Pushed up the built NixOS configuration to Attic
- Added it as a binary cache to PC
- Profit???Now I get to immerse in the beauty of GNOME 46 and have notifications look like this :blobFacePalm:
Public · 2024-04-23 09:59+00:00 Who the hell are Danish Creamery and how did they find every food YouTuber to sponsor them
Public · 2024-04-23 09:46+00:00 @timClicks I think if you call them from a main function they don't get optimized out, but my memory on this is fuzzy.
Public · 2024-04-22 21:51+00:00 Bold of @github to wax poetic about helping the Earth while spending massive amounts on AI training.

Public · 2024-04-20 10:46+00:00 @botteaap it's painfully obvious they don't care and I don't think having a maintainer who's less of an asshole will change the dynamic all that much.
Public · 2024-04-20 10:12+00:00 @zsmb13 I am rather surprised the post has been allowed to stay up at all. Zhuinden's continued participation already tells me that the moderators work with a pretty long leash but it is so painfully obvious this only exists to harass @skydoves
Public · 2024-04-19 06:16+00:00 The life of an average #NixOS enjoyer
Public · 2024-04-18 17:50+00:00 @zachklipp "Don't help with genocide" is popular everywhere except Google apparently
Public · 2024-04-18 12:07+00:00 @romainguy @shikasd have a meme in these trying times :P
Public · 2024-04-17 18:53+00:00 @mhoye I guess it's a B2B vs B2C thing, you buy a Samsung phone not a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset so the average consumer has no reason to be cognizant of the fact that there is no other viable mobile SoC manufacturer.

Public · 2024-04-17 06:21+00:00 Found out yesterday that #Tailscale's newly revamped app (https://hachyderm.io/@tailscale/112259739146936085) is built in #JetpackCompose instead of gioui like the previous iteration, it's awesome to see the pivot and the improvements it has brought to the app experience.
Public · 2024-04-16 19:39+00:00 @yosh Published two blog posts at the beginning of the month after a whole year of procrastination, and spent like 4 hours today updating and packaging this app to work on my NixOS machine https://github.com/zoeyfyi/Boop-GTK/compare/trunk...msfjarvis:Boop-GTK:trunk .
Hope you have a better day tomorrow!
Public · 2024-04-16 12:12+00:00 Slept at 12AM yesterday and even though I felt slightly groggy in the morning after 8 hours of sleep, the amount of energy I have throughout the day is a refreshing change. Turns out I only needed to be mad at #MarvelSnap to put down my phone and sleep 🤡🤡🤡
Public · 2024-04-15 08:04+00:00 @caio I used https://graphite.dev/ at a previous job and was pretty happy with it, their blog has a lot of reading available on the topic.
Public · 2024-04-13 10:55+00:00 · edited 2024-04-13 11:04+00:00 Converted one of my servers into a #Tailscale exit node and I'm once again surprised by how simple literally everything about Tailscale is. These are all the changes I made on my #NixOS configuration for it to work first try https://github.com/msfjarvis/dotfiles/commit/df57623d23f8e65bac82710510cd583604e2de9f

Public · 2024-04-12 11:48+00:00 Made the mistake of running `git gc --aggressive` on my nixpkgs checkout now I gotta let it eat my CPU and RAM for the next 10 minutes
Public · 2024-04-12 09:25+00:00 @sasikanth why do you need to turn off auto migrations? From what I see the code migration API is meant to slot in Kotlin code between SQL migrations not replace them.
Public · 2024-04-11 15:31+00:00 @saket @sasikanth https://github.com/msasikanth/twine/issues/267 I assume it's on his radar but the poor guy has a whole laundry list of stuff already I don't wanna be a burden lol
Public · 2024-04-11 15:16+00:00 Hello #LazyWeb, I'm looking for an #RSS client for Android that supports the Fever API to integrate with my yarr server. I've found this which seems to check most boxes for me but I'd really like the app to look like an Android app and not an iOS one :D
Public · 2024-04-09 07:08+00:00 @britter It became bad once algorithmic suggestions came in, as a feed of exclusively users / organizations you follow and repositories you've starred it was pretty useful to me.
Public · 2024-04-08 19:16+00:00 Geary was pulling in a very old version of webkitgtk that failed to build, removing it has let it progress further. There is so much to be built that I had to tamp down available resources for Nix to retain interactivity.
