This was using so much CPU that Console terminated the tab
Public · 2024-04-08 08:13+00:00 Public · 2024-04-08 08:05+00:00 I'm building the #NixOS #GNOME 46 update locally to help test it and my CPU usage graph is now a solid block because of how long the CPU has been at 100% utilisation.
Who would've guessed rebuilding 3000 packages written in Rust, Haskell, C and JavsScript could be computationally expensive :blobUgh:
Public · 2024-04-06 07:59+00:00 It's the weekend which means it is once again time to fuck around with your blogging setup rather than actually write anything.
Public · 2024-04-04 07:32+00:00 Before someone shows up to be mad, yes I did already +1 the existing issue https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/247991770.
Public · 2024-04-04 03:21+00:00 Another day of being let down by Android Studio's Download Sources button

Public · 2024-04-04 00:19+00:00 The fact that the xz backdoor caused a rebuild of basically all of NixOS is making my nixpkgs-unstable update hurt a bit more than usual :D
Public · 2024-04-03 23:35+00:00 @eb I came across https://aboutfeeds.com some time ago, so my website does have a nicer RSS feed now https://msfjarvis.dev/index.xml
Public · 2024-04-03 05:02+00:00 @snijsure Seems to be fine for me. I would recommend building un-obfuscated APKs and comparing them with https://github.com/JakeWharton/diffuse/ to find where you're gaining size.
Public · 2024-04-03 04:42+00:00 Does anyone know what is the technical merit behind banking websites fucking dying when you press the back button in your browser?
Public · 2024-04-02 11:44+00:00 @svenjacobs I bought it 10 days ago and it has become a real problem lmfao, it's so goood
Public · 2024-04-02 06:24+00:00 @kiranrao given what we've seen from AI so far I don't think identifying stupidity is a strength yet :blobJoy:
Public · 2024-04-02 06:15+00:00 @kiranrao 😭
Public · 2024-04-02 06:13+00:00 @kiranrao I once spent some 20 minutes trying to debug a fixed issue because I was deploying to one device and checking the other :blobFacePalm:
Public · 2024-04-01 21:22+00:00 Ayo nobody told me writing an #AprilCools gets you a lovely note from Hillel Wayne in your email
Public · 2024-04-01 18:42+00:00 For #AprilCools I decided to dive into my screenshots folder of 5 years and running, to see if there was anything worth talking about. Turns out most of them are just me having fun in #Minecraft, so here's a small photo book of my favorite ones.
Warning: the page has about 30 megabytes worth of images but they should load lazily and not destroy your browser performance.

Public · 2024-03-31 17:22+00:00 It took me embarrassingly long to finish this, but here's a 10 minute read on how you can optimize your @Gradle builds to sync dependencies faster and save precious time on your IDE sync and builds.

Public · 2024-03-30 18:38+00:00 @Sh41 Very glad to hear that! I'm thoroughly addicted to Helldivers 2 right now so I'm waiting for the grind there to subside before I pick up Forbidden West :D
Public · 2024-03-30 14:01+00:00 @dansup Calling it a verification program heavily undermines what you're actually trying to do, which is gather financial support for this project. Branding it instead as a supporter program will definitely increase the reach of the initiative as well as find more willing participants. Twitter completely devaluing what verification used to mean has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and it'd be better to steer clear of it.
Public · 2024-03-27 12:39+00:00 Setting a personal goal for myself to break up the blogging dry spell via #AprilCools https://www.aprilcools.club/
Public · 2024-03-27 08:49+00:00 @gakisstylianos yeah of course, in my case it'd be from 5:30 PM to ~7 PM which is still plenty of time before I actually sleep.
Public · 2024-03-27 08:30+00:00 @gakisstylianos That makes sense, I do exercise in the evening but I think I'll move it to be slightly later and just let it put me to sleep
Public · 2024-03-27 08:03+00:00 @gakisstylianos yeah I've tried and failed a few times but as of late it's starting to become a much bigger problem. Being up till 1 or 2 is still fine but when it's starting to push 3 and past it just doesn't leave enough time to recharge for the next day and I hate being tired the entire day.
Gonna try harder this time round and hopefully get it to stick.
Public · 2024-03-27 06:51+00:00 I need to start putting my phone away in the night, like how the hell did I go from feeling tired at 11 PM to staying up till 4 AM :thonkFish:
Public · 2024-03-21 18:20+00:00 @hadilq This notification got buried and I missed it, sorry about that. The Lint is called `UseTomlInstead`

Public · 2024-03-19 08:42+00:00 @gakisstylianos @zsmb13 yep, also having the kotlinx.serialization integration becoming first-party

Public · 2024-03-18 19:59+00:00 @zsmb13 Finally a Retrofit release, with a casual 3 years and 400 commits :blobBongo:
Public · 2024-03-18 19:56+00:00 @hadilq I believe there is a Lint for it in AGP but I can't check for its name right now.
If your project already uses catalogs then trying to add a String-ly typed dependency should trigger the Lint in Android Studio and give you the name.
Public · 2024-03-18 19:53+00:00 @fasterthanlime it looks like the the author did a slight generalization from this section in the Cranelift docs which explicitly mentions debug-only use of Cranelift in Rust.
https://github.com/bytecodealliance/wasmtime/tree/main/cranelift#planned-uses
Public · 2024-03-18 18:44+00:00 @ab ktlint is the pinnacle of "0.x means no stability guarantees in SemVer", somehow they are breaking something in literally every release. I simply gave up on ktlint, delegated formatting to ktfmt and rebuilt whatever lints we did need on top of Android Lint.
Public · 2024-03-18 05:55+00:00 @Ductos I've watched two episodes and absolutely loved it.
Public · 2024-03-18 05:49+00:00 I think I've hit the tail end of good #StarWars content now, Resistance is pretty meh and Visions mostly felt like a poor knock-off of Love Death Robots. Treadmill watching will have to pivot to more recently launched shows like Shogun and The Gentlemen
Public · 2024-03-18 04:23+00:00 @anomalocarididae I keep going back and forth on SB737, I'm constantly amazed by how much this guy is able to break the game but his slightly infantilizing tone makes him hard to watch personally.
Public · 2024-03-18 04:02+00:00 @sasikanth @ivory Following specific hashtags can help surface people with similar interests.
IDK if Ivory has a similar thing but in the Mastodon app you can long press the home tab and it pulls up a list of "popular" people in your federating network that has also had good suggestions in my experience.
Public · 2024-03-16 15:17+00:00 @patrickleavy so I keep hearing :) Anything else in the Star Wars universe I should catch up on instead? I'm done with the movies, Clone Wars and am caught up with Bad Batch.
Public · 2024-03-16 14:17+00:00 @justin kinda expected that but disappointing to hear still :(
Public · 2024-03-16 14:10+00:00 Finally finished watching #StarWars Rebels today and just like the other animated properties it was absolutely brilliant. Having caught up on the Ezra Bridger lore, a lot of the stuff in #Ahsoka now makes more sense than it did when I first watched the show. Will start watching Resistance from tomorrow!
Public · 2024-03-16 07:02+00:00 @friendlymike @pixellight @mattramotar oh my god this is addressing literally all the problems I am running into with AndroidX Paging right now. Will try to find some time over the next week to go through the code and see if I can help get this over the finish line.

Public · 2024-03-14 11:26+00:00 · edited 2024-03-14 11:50+00:00 I can't remember the last time I had to deal with an OpenSSL dependency in a project and did not despise it. I've started moving all my #RustLang projects from libgit2 to gitoxide more for getting rid of OpenSSL than for the actual niceties it brings
